Tensor compaction of porous rocks: theory and experimental verification

چکیده

Compaction in sedimentary basins has been traditionally regarded as a one-dimensional process that ignores inelastic deformation directions orthogonal to the active load. This study presents new experiments with sandstone demonstrating role of three-dimensional compaction cyclic true triaxial compression. The were carried out on basis independent loading test system Laboratory Geomechanics Ishlinsky Institute for Problems Mechanics Russian Academy Science. elastic moduli material estimated from stress-strain curves and deformations sample each three determined. Subtracting component total allowed show is observed direction loading, whereas there expansion material. To describe nature compaction, generalization Athy law tensor case proposed, taking into account stress deviator. kinetic equation evolution deformation, starting moment load application are introduced. On multiaxial compression sandstone, identification verification constructed model out. possibility not only qualitative, but also quantitative description changes under complex shown.

Theory of Compaction Bands in Porous Rock

Compaction bands are narrow planar zones of localized purely compressive (without shear) deformation that form perpendicular to the most compressive principal stress. Such bands have been observed in high porosity rocks in the laboratory and in the field. Because compaction presumably decreases permeability, these bands can act as barriers to flow within reservoirs. Reexamination of the results...

Robust Anti-Windup Control Design for PID Controllers–Theory and Experimental Verification

This paper addresses an approximation-based anti-windup (AW) control strategy for suppressing the windup effect caused by actuator saturation nonlinearity in proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controlled systems. The effect of actuator constraint is firstly regarded as a disturbance imported to the PID controller. The external disturbance can then be modeled by a linear differential equatio...

Compaction Bands in Porous Rock

Compaction bands are localized, planar zones of compressed material that form perpendicular to the maximum compressive stress. Compaction bands have been observed in porous sandstone formations in the field and in laboratory compression tests on porous sandstone, plaster, glass beads, polycarbonate honeycombs and metal foams. Because the permeability of the compacted material is much reduced, c...

Sonoelasticity imaging: theory and experimental verification.

Sonoelasticity is a rapidly evolving medical imaging technique for visualizing hard tumors in tissues. In this novel diagnostic technique, a low-frequency vibration is externally applied to excite internal vibrations within the tissue under inspection. A small stiff inhomogeneity in a surrounding tissue appears as a disturbance in the normal vibration eigenmode pattern. By employing a properly ...
